Review: Sometimes It Happens by Lauren Barnholdt

Sometimes It HappensSometimes It Happens by Lauren Barnholdt
320 Pages
Release Date: July 12, 2011
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Genre: YA Contemporary
Rating: 4.5 STARS

Goodreads Summary:
On the last day of her junior year, Hannah's boyfriend Ryan dumped her. Facing a summer of loneliness, Hannah turns to her best friend Ava for comfort. Ava does what BFFs do: she stays by Hannah's side...until it's time for Ava to head up to Maine for the summer. Also left behind is Ava's boyfriend, Noah, who's such a great guy he gets Hannah a job at the diner he waits tables at. Slowly, Hannah comes out of her funk thanks to Noah's good conversation and their fun times at the diner. But things get complicated when their friendship turns into attraction--and one night, into a passionate kiss. The novel opens on the first day of senior year; the day Hannah is going to see Ava, Ryan, and Noah all in one place. Over the course of the day secrets and betrayals are revealed, and alliances are broken and reformed. In the end, everyone is paired up once again, but not the way you might think...

MY THOUGHTS:
Lauren Barnholdt does it again! This is one of the best YA Contemporary Romance book that I would recommend anyone to read. I for one did not want to read it, because I don't like reading books about being in love with your best friend's boyfriend which ends up leading to bullying or major rumors. But then my sister read it and ended up loving it , so I gave it a try because I loved Two-Way Street (my second Lauren Barnholdt book) and decided it would probably be a great book. I didn't have anything to lose after all. And right when I started reading, it already had me hooked.

Hannah's your average teen whose constantly worrying about whether Sebastian, her boyfriend, is going to break up with her, but has her best friend, Ava, always there for her. So when she goes to the the end of the year party and she sees Sebastian making out with another girl, she breaks. Depressed, she decides to spend her summer with ice cream, especially when Ava drops the bomb that she's going to Maine as camp counselor the next day. Ava asks Noah to look after Hannah, so when Noah makes Hannah work with him and Lacey at Cooleys, a small diner, Hannah takes up the offer. Although, Noah and Hannah weren't exactly friends more like acquaintances at school, they both hit it off perfectly. Lacey, now one of Hannah's best friend, is a very nervous person but an entertaining character. She was something new and the exact opposite of Ava. Which I was happy for, Lacey helped Hannah open up and was perfectly honest with her.

I was glad the author decided to switch each chapter from the first day of senior year to the summer. It helped understand how Hannah was feeling and explained why. The witty dialogue was a great part of the book. It's the perfect summer read, fresh, enjoyable, and emotional. I was definitely connected to the characters and able to feel their emotions. Hannah's and Noah's relationship would be best described as real. Something that was meant to be, even though it didn't happen at a great time. I love the way how the author made everything flow and kept the book at a fast pace not leaving anyone bored. You wouldn't want to miss out on this book.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? #1

So this is my first meme and I'm so happy to start this. Welcome to It's Monday! What Are You Reading? Hosted by Book Journey, this is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well... you never know where that "must read" book will come from.

Today I'm reading Hemlock by Kathleen Peacock! Its such an amazing book and one of the first werewolf books that's actually written well.

Goodreads Summary:
Mackenzie and Amy were best friends.

Since then, Mac's life has been turned upside down. She is being haunted by Amy in her dreams, and an extremist group called the Trackers has come to Mac's hometown of Hemlock to hunt down Amy's killer:

A white werewolf.

Lupine syndrome--also known as the werewolf virus--is on the rise across the country. Many of the infected try to hide their symptoms, but bloodlust is not easy to control.

Wanting desperately to put an end to her nightmares, Mac decides to investigate Amy's murder herself. She discovers secrets lurking in the shadows of Hemlock, secrets about Amy's boy-friend, Jason, her good pal Kyle, and especially her late best friend. Mac is thrown into a maelstrom of violence and betrayal that puts her life at risk.

Kathleen Peacock's thrilling novel is the first in the Hemlock trilogy, a spell-binding urban fantasy series filled with provocative questions about prejudice, trust, lies, and love.

Rotten Apple Reads: J.L.Armentrout Prize Pack Giveaway!

Rotten Apple Reads: J.L.Armentrout Prize Pack Giveaway!: Rotten Apple Reads one of the amazing blogs I follow is having this super awesome giveaway of Obsidian, Onyx, and a pre-order of Deity!!!!!

***Ignore the white stuff! Not sure what happened

Goodreads Summary: Obsidian by J.L.A

Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don't kill him first, that is.

Goodreads Summary: Onyx by J.L.A

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarre connection. I’ve sworn him off even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But against all common sense, I’m falling for him. Hard.

Our relationship issues aren’t out biggest problem…

The Department of Defense is here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we’re linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And when a new boy shows up a school with a secret of his own, things get complicated fast. I need to choose between my own instincts and Daemon’s.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. Daemon’s never going to stop searching until gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies.

Goodreads Summary: Deity (Covenant Series #3) by J.L.A

History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time.
Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden.
If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.
But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.
Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...
