Goodreads Summary:
No one is like Daemon Black.
When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.
But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.
After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.
Together we’re stronger... and they know it.
MY THOUGHTS:
**BEWARE: CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM OBSIDIAN, ONYX, AND SOME MINOR ONES FROM OPAL*
Noooo!!!! The ending!!!! I mean Katy and Daemon and Dee and Dawson and Beth and DAEMON!!!!!! That wasn't supposed to happen! I need Origin…but it’s coming out in June. *finishes ranting*
*takes a deep breath* Sorry about the ranting, I’ve been dying to get that off my chest. One word to describe Opal? Exhilarating. My heart was pounding faster and faster throughout the entire book. Jennifer brilliantly wrote Opal with more seriousness than Obsidian and Onyx but did add humor to lighten to lighten up the plot and of course with romance as usual! You could easily see the differences in the characters from the beginning of the series to now.
The one person that changed the most in my opinion is Dee. In Obsidian, Dee was the sweet, hyper, and lovable girl but Adam’s death took a big toll on her and now she’s all up for payback, revenge, and killing people. And that is soooo not Dee. Dawson is another character that changed and from what he had to endure, I’m not surprised. He’s broken and it didn’t help that Daemon and Dee kept hovering around and expected him to be normal. Katy did her best to relieve the tension between Daemon and Dawson and helped as best as she could. Now, the one character I would like to hand to Daemon to beat the crap out of: Blake >.< I’ve been having sudden urges to punch him and GRRR he annoyed me to death in this book and had this very creepy Edward Cullen moment O_O We also meet a new secondary character: Luc, he’s also like Katy and Blake and helps Katy to free Beth. I would describe him as the nerdy, young, video-gamer, with amazing hacking/tech skills.
Now what you guys really wanted to hear about….the ROMANCE!!! Aaaahhhh!!!! DAEMON AND KATY ARE SOOO SWEET TOGETHER AND I’M HAPPY THEY FINALLY GOT TOGETHER!!!!! And don’t worry they still bicker and infuriates each other to no ends. But it’s so cute!! Oh my god, right now I feel like a grandmother, that always gives hugs and pinches peoples cheeks, talking about her grandchildren…now that I actually wrote it out, it seems really weird. Ignore my weirdness and let’s continue talking about DAEMON and Katy!!! And while there are many action scenes in this story, there are many steamy Kaemon (yes, that’s my couple/ship name for them) scenes so do not worry fellow Lux fans! But as other couples Daemon and Katy do have their ups and downs, especially when it comes to Dawson’s and Katy’s safety.
Another thing I would like to talk about is Dee’s and Katy’s friendship. Things have been quite rough and tension-filled between them ever since Adam’s death. Sometimes I get annoyed by Dee’s new attitude and feel like pulling my hair out, but at the same times I totally understand where she’s coming from. Now that both, Dee and Ash have been besties of some sort when they mourned Adam’s death, its hard for Katy to see that Dee has someone to lean on and that she lost her best friend. As time goes by, I really do hope Dee and Katy become as close as they were before and maybe Ash too. She’s actually really chill and cool in this book and that says something.
Opal is the perfect read and one of my favorite J.L.A book. So all you Daemon-loving, DOD haters, and alien craziness lovers who loved Obsidian and Onyx…Opal will leave you speechless and wanting for more. And I will admit I did shed a few tears at the end, so readers watch out! But all J.L.A fans would truly be impressed and satisfied with Opal.
