Goodreads Summary:
How do you defy
destiny?
Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different
she is—no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it's
getting harder. Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking
parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's
haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when
Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're
destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating
throughout history.
As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry,
she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers
might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas
together—and trying to tear them apart.
MY
THOUGHTS:
Starcrossed is amazing!!!! This book is so fun and
hilarious I literally laughed out loud on occasion(my parents now thing I'm
crazy, but that's okay because it's probably true). Helen is so wonderful.
She's funny and sweet and her own kind of bad-ass. I just, I can't.
Really all of Josephine Angelini's characters are great and hilarious. All of
them. Giggles(Claire), Lucas, Jason, Jerry, Hector, all of them.
Moving on... I really enjoyed this book because,
unlike most books it wasn't love (or lust) at first sight. It was
pure, unadulterated rage. I also really liked how you were just as
confused as Helen and Helen's reaction towards it. At first she's just tries
her hardest to stay away from the Delos family(because she's a genuinely good
person) but after she runs into them on multiple occasions and still
has no idea/isn't told what's going on she snaps in her Helen way. It is also
really cool how even though Helen and Lucas hate each other they are drawn
towards each other, specifically, and how they each feel the strongest amount
of hatred for each other. Its like no matter what they are feeling towards
each other it is always the strongest that they feel that emotion.
NEXT! OMG JUST THE RELATIONSHIPS THAT GO ON!!!! THEY ARE
SO FANTASTIC !!!!! Okay I'm going to start with the easy one:
Helen and Jerry. Their relationship is so CUTE!!!!!! Because even though Jerry
is the parent they seem to switch off and Jerry is so sweet and adorably funny
and loves Helen so much!!!!! Now Helen and Claire. Let me just take this moment
to say that Giggles is the bestest best friend to ever exist. She is small and
smart but sarcastic and totally blunt. She makes my day. Gig is Helen's
perfect counterpart: sarcastic and open to her timid niceness and petite and
adorable to Helen's tall, gorgeousness. Hector, Hector, Hector, Hector. He is
just an amazing guy, really, I can't describe him. Just trust me on this one when I say he is an awesome character. Last...Lucas.
Oooooohhhhhh, Lucas. I think I'll let Helen describe him, since I think she
does it best. "She decided that if Lucas was gay then she was going
to have a sex change operation. He would be so worth it." The complete and utter truth.
This book haunts me. Its one of those that look at me every
time I walk by my shelf and says,"When are you going to pick me up and
open me again? I will sit here waiting for you until you do. Please come
soon," with big sad puppy dog eyes that break my heart to walk away from.
I'm usually not strong enough to walk away though......Okay so you know that
annoying thing where during the first like 150 pages of a paperback book the
pages wont stay open unless you're holding them down? Yeah, I've read this book
so many times I only have that problem with the first 70.....Its a really,
really good book...... READ IT.......
