Goodreads Summary:

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

MY THOUGHTS:
Vampire Academy. This. It sounds terrible, trust me I know it does. I mean come on, seriously what kind of title is Vampire Academy? But no this book FAR surpasses its terrible name and all of my expectations for it. I have to confess: although I did buy this book before, I did not read it till after I had read the first two books of the Bloodlines Series (also by Richelle Mead). I do not recommend this. Read Vampire Academy first, its worth it.

Now lets get down to it: I LOVE this book. The characters are amazing and strong and just kick-ass. The plot is (at least romantic part) a biting-your-nails-while-your-emotions-are-stabbed-slowly-to-death (in a good way...yeah that might have come out wrong...oh well). It is just flippin spectacular. AH! Back on topic! So basically there are two types of vampires: Moroi and Strigoi. Moroi can control elemental magic and drink blood but do not kill, while Strigoi do not have magic and do kill, oh and they are also super fast and strong not to mention immortal. The main character, Rose is a Dhampir: half Moroi and half human. They can be created by either a human and a Moroi or another Dhampir and a Moroi but not Dhampir and Dhampir. Dhampirs only have two choices in life: become a guardian and protect Moroi or become a blood whore and live free but disgraced. Rose chose neither. Circumstances forced her to make the decision to take the Moroi she is bonded to,Lissa, (they are special no one else is bonded like them, basically Rose can see into Lissa's mind) away from their school so she could be safe. For two years it worked. Till Dimitri came to town (figuratively) XD

AAAAHHHH DIMITRI!!!!!!! He is a sexy Russian warlord who is just magical and amazing. The ice to Rose's fire and the balm to her burn. And he always pushes her to be her best and be a better person like he knows she can be. He is just: no words. Just. Meh. Nah. *dies in a puddle of feeling* And Rose!!! She is so snarky and witty and unlike most main characters actually sees her flaws and tries to fix them(you know...eventually) and she so noble! She is always thinking about the good of Lissa!

Lissa is wonderful too. She's always worrying about Rose and is so kind and caring. She is sweet and just amazing in her own Lissa way. Her and Rose's relationship is really just the most peculiar thing. They both want the other to be safe and happy. Rose is Lissa rock, her anchor who is always there when she needs Rose most. And Lissa is Rose's anchor too although in a very different way, for Rose Lissa reminds her what she is protecting, all the good and kindness, and also a reminder that she can be better too.

JUST READ IT!!!!!!!!! Its so wonderful and packed full of mystery and action and romance and just lots of really really cool shit.

  1. YES! I put off reading this for SO LONG. All because of the title and what it implied. Oh so much regret. I wish I had read it sooner! .. and now I wish that it wasn't so popular because I need the rest of the series and they are all on a huge hold list! - listen to this review people! GO READ IT.
