Synopsis:

While backpacking through Florence, Italy, during the summer before she heads off to college, Lucy Sommersworth finds herself falling in love with the culture, the architecture, the food...and Jesse Palladino, a handsome street musician. After a whirlwind romance, Lucy returns home, determined to move on from her "vacation flirtation." But just because summer is over doesn't mean Lucy and Jesse are over, too.

In this coming-of-age romance, April Lindner perfectly captures the highs and lows of a summer love that might just be meant to last beyond the season.

1. Describe LOVE, LUCY in less than 10 words.

Backpacker falls in love with street musician in Italy.

2. Have you ever been to Florence, Italy?
Yes, quite a few times.  It’s one of my favorite spots in the universe.  Set out on foot from        anyplace in Florence and before long you’ll turn a corner and find yourself awed by breathtaking Duomo, the Arno river, the Ponte Vecchio.  The art, the architecture, the food, the shopping…it’s all incredible.

3. Any place you haven’t gone to but really want to?
Tokyo, Prague, Buenos Aires, Sicily, Stockholm, Mumbai, the Yorkshire Moors, Edinburgh, Seoul…and that’s just for starters.  My bucket list is pretty much endless.

4. Was LOVE, LUCY your first title choice?
Since my first two books—Jane and Catherine--were named after their heroines, I assumed my third book would just be titled Lucy.  My editor thought Love, Lucy would better convey what the book was about, and, as usual, she was right.

5. Which YA book have you recently read?
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz.  I assigned it in my Young Adult Writing Class, and it was a big hit with my students.

6.  Favorite Movie and/or TV Show?
My all-time favorite movie is the 1985 Merchant/Ivory adaptation of A Room With a View.  Love, Lucy is a retelling of the E. M. Forster novel on which the film is based.  Both book and movie are charming, romantic, and gently funny.

7.  Favorite Book/Movie/TV Show Character?
Jane Eyre, who stays true to herself when all the world seems against her, and even when Mr. Rochester—the one person who loves her—throws serious temptation into her path.

8. Favorite Author?
I can’t pick just one!  The Bronte sisters, Jane Austen, E. M. Forster—and, more recently, Francine Prose, Meg Wolitzer, John Green, Rainbow Rowell.  And that’s just the fiction writers.  Don’t get me started on poetry.

9.  Favorite Villain?
John Willoughby in Sense and Sensibility.  He’s a fortune hunter and a cad—but a charming, handsome, romantic one.  He breaks poor Marianne Dashwood’s heart and almost kills her, but I can’t help having a little crush on him myself.

A professor of English at Saint Joseph’s University, April lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and two sons.
