Event Recap: Six of Crows Magic and Mayhem Tour {Discussion/Q&A}

I had so a fun time at the Magic and Mayhem tour! Leigh Bardugo was in conversation with Heather Havrilesky. Those two were quite the pair and had the audience laughing for more than half of this discussion/Q&A (not verbatim)

 Discussion/Q&A
Q: What do you think it will take to last in this euphoria (of being #1 on NYT Bestsellers List)?
A: Cocaine probably...

Q: Do you feel like you have a hangover from basking in your own success?
A: No. She obviously has lots of self doubt and sometimes thinks that "Somebody should write this! It would be amazing!"

Q: Do you feel guilty that you feel happy?
A: Don't feel guilty about it but she believes that something bad is going to happen especially if things are going too well. (Believes in hubris)

Q: There's a theme of thirst for ego driven power in your books. What can you tell us about that?
A: Every character driven by what they want vs. what they need. Characters in her story know what they want but what they need is something different. It what makes a character a character.

Event Recap: YALLWEST

If you didn't know, YALLWEST was this weekend. I have been excited for this event literally ever since the day they announced it at YallFest (which was in November I think). It helps that it's really close by so our rides would have been fine with getting us rides (and if not we could have bussed it). Anyways, so Caitlyn, Olivia, and I attended both days (WE HAD SO MUCH FUN)

Saturday:
Oh god, Saturday was crazy, once they let us in, we had to sign in so we could be accounted for any of the keynotes and the Smackdown. The thing was that everyone was super confused as to what tent was for what but then word got around and everything worked out. From then on, Olivia and I bought some books (adding more weight to our ever so heavy tote bags). We had an average of 11 books each (not as much as other people but we were actually carrying them on our shoulders-->still sore shoulders). Caitlyn went to wait in the signing line for Marissa Meyer since that was the longest and me and Olivia headed to the Epic Reads tent and got an Epic Reads tote bag and an awesome Dumplin' sticker. Since we had 3 people it was easier to help each other out in the lines so we were able to get all our books signed. Lines were so hectic (they had to move Veronica Roth's signing to another place and Richelle Mead signed for at least 2 hours and even then she didn't get to all of them).

For one of the first events of 2015, Caitlyn, Olivia (Vlogger at We Think We're Funny), and I went
to The Grove B&N for Victoria Aveyard's RED QUEEN. At first Tahereh Mafi was supposed
to be moderating but she wasn't able to make it because she was sick.
WE SEND OUR WISHES TAHEREH! Hope you feel better! <3

Event Recap: Suspicion by Alexandra Monir Launch Party

Caitlyn and I had the honor of going to Alexandra Monir's launch party for her newest release, Suspicion (which is pretty good! My review will be up in the beginning of next month!) So we both bought copies of the book and headed upstairs to the event room which was filled up pretty nicely with people. There was also an amazing spread of food which ranged from cold cut sandwiches to brownies. It was great. I wish I got a picture but there was a lot of people and I felt awkward :o

(Didn't realize this when I took this pic but Romina Russell, author of Zodiac, is the one in the pink/blue flannel XD)

Recap: 2014 LA Times Festival of Books

On Saturday and Sunday Caitlyn and I went to the 2014 LA Times Festival of Books and had an awesome time there :D Luckily it wasn't too hot like it was last year. On Saturday we first went to the John Green conversation hoping to get some tickets but they were sold out so we just decided to hang out in the signing line before it got too long. But we were able to get tickets to the Tahereh Mafi panel and spotted Laini Taylor and Margaret Stohl :P The John Green signing long it was especially after everyone that went to the convo came out. We also finally got to meet Stephanie Diaz, who we saved a spot for on the line and might I add super chill. So glad to be able to meet her :) Caitlyn also helped and casually gave John Green an Extraction (Stephanie's upcoming release) bookmark.

Event Recap: Goddess by Josephine Angelini Release Party

On Tuesday, Caitlyn and I had a the AMAZING chance to go to the Goddess release party!
We got there an hour early so we got good seats and talked till Josie came!

Also random, but I was also on Twitter and the Of Triton Twitter party was also going on and to win a Of Poseidon and Of Triton, Anna Banks asked us to tweet out duck face pic, which Caitlyn totally did! But apparently it didn't tweet *huffs* And I don't have her permission to put it on this post or else I would!
Anyways, since there was time, I went to see if I could find a legit duck picture book or something in the kid's section. But I found something better....an actual duck:

BACK to release party!
There were CUPCAKES!! Delicious cupcakes :P

I FINALLY got to meet AVA from Why Ava Reads and hug her!!! We didn't get a chance to talk because we had to leave after but we must next time I meet her!!

At 7:00, all the chairs started to fill up and Josephine Angelini made an entrance!

Josie is a ball of sunshine and is super awesome! She immediately connected with the crowd!
She then answered any of the audience's questions they had for her and the Starcrossed series.

She then read chapter 5 from Goddess  (and I may have gone photo crazy)

She answered a few more questions. One was actually from Anna Carey, author of the Eve trilogy, who came to support Josie! Josie also mentioned about doing a prequel about Daphne's story in first person POV. She also said that when she turned in Goddess, her editor/publisher gave it back to her saying how wonderful it was except for the fact that it didn't have a beginning. She had a mini heart attack and said that the first 3-4 chapters were never originally there.

Another question led to one of her new books called Crusable which is a cross between fantasy and sci-fi about a girl names Lily who gets taken to an alternate universe by Lilian her parallel self and Lillian is an evil witch from the Salem Witch Trials where she kills all scientists and stuff. Josie being the ever kind person read us the prologue of it on her phone. And I can't wait to read it! It sounds so original and different!!

Then there was a signing!!
I unfortunately don't own the books and found Starcrossed via library so I never bought it.
(Josephine Angelini and me)

(Caitlyn with her signed books and Josephine Angelini)
I had so much fun Tuesday night! Thank you HarperTeen and Epic Reads for throwing all this together!!
We can now say that we are official high school students for attending a party ignoring the fact that it was a release party that took place in a book store ;P
I do hope I get to see Josephine Angelini again too!!

Recap Post: Summer Lovin Tour

Caitlyn and I had the awesome chance to go to the Summer Lovin Tour at Mysterious Galaxy Redondo Beach yesterday and got to meet Suzanne Young author of The Program and more, Kimberly Derting author of the Body Finder series and The Pledge trilogy, Shannon Messenger author of YA debut Let the Sky Fall, Jessi Kirby author of new release Golden, Morgan Matson author of Second Chance Summer, and Sarah Ockler author of her new release The Book of Broken Hearts!!

(Left to Right: Jessi Kirby, Sarah Ockler, Morgan Matson, and Shannon Messenger)

After introducing their books which a lot of them contained abs and dogs which they continued to joke about throughout the event, they decided to play Two Truths and a Lie!!
What I learned? Suzanne's dogs are named after 80's characters.
Shannon sat on the Academy Award nominees awards row.
Morgan was a cheerleader in high school and wrote her first book when she was 26 years old.
Sarah spent her entire senior year going to school in her PJs and skipped prom to see New Kids on the Block. Her first story wasn't able to publish due to copyright issues...
Jessi never ditched a day of high school and got a bag of potato chips from Sarah Dessen which is sitting on her office not opened.
Kimberly went 5 YEARS without chocolate and was at home in a drive by shooting which may I add she said all nonchalantly....

They proceeded to throw candy at people who participated!!
They answered some questions then had their signing!
