Goodreads Summary:
Paige Kelly is used to weird--in fact, she probably corners the market on weird, considering that her best friend, Dottie, has been dead since the 1950s. But when a fire demon attacks Paige in detention, she has to admit that things have gotten out of her league. Luckily, the cute new boy in school, Logan Bradley, is a practiced demon slayer-and he isn't fazed by Paige's propensity to chat with the dead. Suddenly, Paige is smack in the middle of a centuries-old battle between warlocks and demons, learning to fight with a magic sword so that she can defend herself. And if she makes one wrong move, she'll be pulled into the Dark World, an alternate version of our world that's overrun by demons-and she might never make it home.

Fast paced and full of spunk, The Dark World brings back demons and warlocks back into the paranormal gang. It's been a while since I've read a purely paranormal book and I definitely enjoyed reading The Dark World. Although, it was a bit typical with a war against evil and how Paige is the ultimate factor that hangs on the tip of the balance. I did love the idea of a different world that overlaps the world we're in now and how they correlate and affect each other.

Paige is one of strongest characters that really builds up the book. There's never a moment where you question her decisions because it's so easy to relate and see what she goes through. I loved reading about her relationship with Dottie and how despite the time difference they easily click and help one another. It also helped seeing her relationship with her parents and why they worry about her. Her dad was pretty cool and provided some comic relief during some scenes :)

It was also really refreshing to see Logan's character be introduced slowly with few mentions but not too intensely like other YA paranormal books. Seeing them together in the beginning was so cute and adorable. Then you meet Logan, the demon slayer and not the cute boy who sometimes talks to Paige, and it just tips her life upside down. Then there's Ajax, who I just LOVE. Definitely hope to see him in the next book.

The Dark World is perfect for paranormal lovers. And with the way it ended the way it did, I for one will definitely be awaiting the next book. While it didn't have a lasting impression and was just a good, decent read, I recommend to only skip out on it if you're not a paranormal fan. Happy Readings!

  1. I've been quite in the fence with this book but it seems that I should really give it a chance!
