The Thing About Books: I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You by Ally Carter

Hey guys! As part of the Gallagher Girls by Ally Carter Series Readathon, Caitlyn and I have decided to use our weekly book discussions to fangirl over the books in the Gallagher Girls series. So this week we talked about book 1 of the series.....

~I'D TELL YOU I LOVE YOU, BUT THEN I'D HAVE TO KILL YOU~

Caitlyn
I LOVE Gallagher Girl books so very VERY much!

Taherah
YESSSSS. I will say though that I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You (LYKY for short) a) has an awesome title (all GG books do) and b)wasn't exactly the best of all GG books.

Caitlyn
I HATE JOSH SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean I know he's a totally decent and good human being but he pisses me off so much!!!! The entire time I was reading this *cough* earlier today *cough* I was screaming at Cammie "NO!!!!!!!! DON'T!!!!!!!!! He's not worth it!!! Get your amazing education!!! Stop sneaking out for hiiiiiiimmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!"

Taherah
HAHAHA I think it's because you read the other books before this and well you can't compare Josh to Zach. I mean Zach is Zach. ANYWAYS I do see your point especially after rereading it though.

Caitlyn
He just...I don't know he irks me. And the whole forklift thing....just no (can't help thinking that Zach would have gone all BAMF on all there asses and helped out instead of.....you know, causing a ton of problems)

Taherah
I actually found that super hilarious. It was like "Oh Josh..you have much to learn."

Caitlyn
I slapped my forehead at that point, I mean I knew it was coming....I just hoped it wouldn't. I also silently cheered when she broke up with him....

Taherah
I was just MEH when it happened and wasn't exactly sure how the series was going to go once I finished reading it the first time.

Caitlyn
I went in the wonderful magic direction. ALSO I had a complete and total freak out/spaz attack when Solomon came in for the first time.....and the second.....and the third....and basically always, especially his lectures.....yeah :)

Taherah
MR. SOLOMON IS THE BEST!! Can we please talk about how awesome the school itself is?

Caitlyn
YES PLEASE

Taherah
IS IT THE MOST WONDERFUL THING EVER!! I seriously wish I was smart enough to actually attend but *sigh* I'm not

Caitlyn
I KNOW I WANNA BE A SPY AND A PAVEMENT ARTIST AND LEARN ABOUT FUCKING GILLIAN AND HAVE EVAPOPAPER AND COVERT OPS CLASS AND COW AND P&E AND C&A AND GAH

Taherah
AND GO THROUGH SECRET PASSAGEWAYS! IT WOULD BE SOSOSO MUCH FUN

Caitlyn
RIGHT I WOULD SPEND ALL MY TIME STUDYING AND I WOULD NEVER EVER BE BORED (although truth be told even with all said studying I would probably fail all my classes)

Taherah
Yeah that's probably true but it would still be pretty cool...Now let's talk BFFLS

Caitlyn
OMG BEX
The most bad ass person EVER

Taherah
YES TRUTH AGREED

Caitlyn
And Liz is just......Liz

Taherah
LIZ IS SO CUTE AND ADORABLE

Caitlyn
She's also ...you know super smart... :) That;s a bonus

Taherah
Of course! Love how each character has their own specific and unique role in the book!
OH AND MACY
*MACEY(?)

Caitlyn
And we got close to Macey!!!!!! (although not that close)

Taherah
Yeah her character was being introduced and I think she was a needed character.

Caitlyn
I love Macey in later books and was kinda surprised/disappointed that we didn't get to know her better in this one

Taherah
That's true but at the same time I get why we didn't especially with the other books.

Caitlyn
I suppose..... you know who I've always really liked???

Taherah
Who?

Caitlyn Professor Buckingham

Taherah
*laughs* Oh he is a funny character

Caitlyn
She*

Taherah
MEH horrible keyboard

Caitlyn
:)

Taherah
I think I'd give this book 4 STARS.

Caitlyn
Me too (while the rest of the series is a definite and un questioned 5

Taherah
AGREED

Hope you enjoyed it!
What did you guys think about the book??

  1. I really enjoyed rereading this one. It had been years! My favorite things include getting to know the school and all it's awesome quirks and remembering that Macey was an outsider in the beginning and had to earn her place as a GG! Thanks for hosting this read-a-thon!

  3. I loved this series SO much. I read it like 5 years ago when they only had the first 3 books out, but I was cleaning my room (shocker, right?) and I found all my books. I read them all 2x last week LOL!

I have to say that the first and 5th books are probably my favorite though. I don't know why, I just kinda like the storyline of the first. It's easier to understand, I guess. I mean, every girl has to wonder about guys, and I'm sure most have had secret boyfriends before. I just can't say that I've ever tracked down a secret terrorist group before lol! But then again, the 5th is my all-time favorite, just because it's SO AMAZING.

    1. I really do love them all, and have read them so many times I'm not sure what happens in each specific one…they all just kind of blurred into this mash of amazingness

  5. I agree with everything! Except the part about Josh... I loved Josh. Zach is so cocky and an annoying know it all. I can't stand him. I'm finishing book 3 and I'm still not impressed with him. But I can't wait to read the other books to see what happens next! :D

  6. I have to say when Dylan busted Cammie and stuff I was so freaking happy...and confused. I didn't understand why she chose NOW to spill the secret. Ya I felt dumb when I bought it and re-read it agian a month later. apparently the some idiot at the library decide to glue THOSE TWO PAGES in the book, because when I got it at the library for my friend you could see the Elmer's glue outline of it...so yea i felt dumb, but ironicly enough that's my favorite part. Well that and the forklift incident...i still laugh everytime I read it. Anyways I'm so glad to be reading all the books agian for like the millionth time :P

  7. The book was awesome! Although I was upset with Cammie when she kept leaving her friends and even her mom to go see Josh. He didn't seem worth it, especially compared to Zach! Josh also annoyed me with the whole forklift incident, but it was pretty funny, too! Love this book and cant wait to hear thoughts on the rest of the series!

  8. I love this book :) I must say though, it took me a long time to get the next books and while I now squeal about Zach, in that time, I did not talk about Josh... at all.
And yes, Zach is cocky and arrogant, but he turns out so sweet and protective later in the series <3

  9. Rereading this book was a little disappointing because the first time through I loved Josh. He was cute and really sweet to Cammie. But now all I could think about is how Zach is so much better. That being said, it was still so much fun to see Cam, Bex, Liz, and Macey without the being burdened with the Circle. I can't wait to read Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy see when Cam and Zach meet. :)

    1. Oh I totally understand! Josh was always an okay character to me. Never really knew his role in the series when I first read LYKY :)

  10. I'm pretty sure I will never get tired of reading these books. My copy of LYKY (which I was lucky enough to get signed by the lovely Ms. Carter herself!) is tearing apart because I've read it so many times. Though I'll admit it's not my favorite, it's an incredible beginning to the series, even though it's definitely more happy-go-lucky than the other books.
