The Perilous Sea (The Elemental Trilogy #2) by Sherry Thomas
414 Pages
Release Date: September 16, 2014

Goodreads Summary:

After spending the summer away from each other, Titus and Iolanthe (still disguised as Archer Fairfax) are eager to return to Eton College to resume their training to fight the Bane. Although no longer bound to Titus by a blood oath, Iolanthe is more committed than ever to fulfilling her destiny—especially with the agents of Atlantis quickly closing in.

Soon after arriving at school, though, Titus makes a shocking discovery, one that makes him question everything he previously believed about their mission. Faced with this devastating realization, Iolanthe is forced to come to terms with her new role, while Titus must choose between following his mother's prophecies—and forging a divergent path to an unknowable future.

MY THOUGHTS:

Do not make the mistake I did with this book. Read it. Read it right now. Don't wait. Leave and go read it and if you haven't read the Burning Sky go read that and then this one. Do not procrastinate. I had The Perilous Sea for so long before I actually read it AND I REGRET THAT DECISION SO MUCH. I had forgotten how much I loved this world and the characters and I shouldn't have let that happen. The Perilous Sea is really amazing and funny and mysterious! And it's fantasy. I honestly don't know what else to say except go read it and enjoy! (if you haven't read Burning Sky and don't want to run the risk of any spoilers it may be best for you to come back and read this review after you've read Burning Sky)

So, Iolanthe. I am just going to call her Fairfax. I love her. She is so strong and funny. Her banter with all the boys at Eton College is hilarious. I love how comfortable she is with all of them and how nicely she fits in. I think it's awesome that her being a girl is never a problem they have (like having a problem disguising her or something). Fairfax truly blossoms in this book. She goes from being a hero in training to actually being one despite all the obstacles put in her way. And she doesn't do that annoying thing where she denies the obvious. I'm not sure really what else to say about her, except that she is really an amazing main female character.

Titus. I LOVE TITUS HE IS SO SWEET!!! He is THE cutest thing. I mean he really pissed me off in this book. A lot. But when he wasn't doing that he was being the most adorable person I had to forgive him. Honestly I grinned like an idiot EVERY TIME we saw Iolanthe through his POV. I don't know how to convey the depth of my feelings for him. I just think it's so amazing how much he loves her and how it seems so simple for him. He never tries to deny or it's just a part of him. As deeply ingrained as his need to defeat the Bane. It's beauty is in its simplicity and how unabashed he is about it. He loves her and thats it. And I think its the sweetest thing ever.

Basically I love The Perilous Sea just as much if not more than the Burning Sky and if you didn't take my advice early when I said to read it I hope you do now. The Perilous Sea also has this really cool counter plot of a boy and a girl who have lost their memories and are stuck in the Sahara Desert together. AH! It's just really good and attention grabbing and page turning! Just from writing this I want to go reread it. So go check it out ;P BYYEEE!
