Synopsis:

Rhiannon Thomas's dazzling debut novel is a spellbinding reimagining of Sleeping Beauty and what happens after happily ever after.

One hundred years after falling asleep, Princess Aurora wakes up to the kiss of a handsome prince and a broken kingdom that has been dreaming of her return. All the books say that she should be living happily ever after. But as Aurora understands all too well, the truth is nothing like the fairy tale.

Her family is long dead. Her "true love" is a kind stranger. And her whole life has been planned out by political foes while she slept.

As Aurora struggles to make sense of her new world, she begins to fear that the curse has left its mark on her, a fiery and dangerous thing that might be as wicked as the witch who once ensnared her. With her wedding day drawing near, Aurora must make the ultimate decision on how to save her kingdom: marry the prince or run.

Rhiannon Thomas weaves together vivid scenes of action, romance, and gorgeous gowns to reveal a richly imagined world … and Sleeping Beauty as she’s never been seen before.

A beautiful twist on the Sleeping Beauty story, I LOVED the idea of a not so happily ever after and a probably more realistic aftermath to what happens to Aurora. The beginning took me by surprise by how abrupt it was but at the same time it made sense why it dove straight into the book. I will say that there are some filler chapters or parts to the story that sometimes bored me but all in all A Wicked Thing was definitely the foundation for a great series to come.

I loved Aurora's thoughts. We saw how disconcerted she was and how strange everything was for her. In a way it was chaotic. So much time had passed by and there was new history and she was being greeted by strangers. I'm glad she questioned stuff but also lady like enough (considering that was how she was born and raised). Oh and all the political intrigue. Ok there wasn't as much as I would have liked but IT WAS THERE and I loved it. Everyone wanted something different from her and it was just so much for her to bear. Her awakening was a celebration for something she wasn't even sure the meaning of. She wasn't able to get her life straight with the wedding and the fact that she was a big symbol meant she had no choice and would be played as a puppet

Rodric, the prince who woke Aurora up, was definitely different than what I expected. He kind of annoyed me at first because of how shy and kind of boring he was, but then he grew on me and I began to like him. I'm not if he would be a good love interest for Aurora but I think with enough character development (for both character) throughout the series, they could potentially be a pretty awesome couple. And then there's Tristan...I don't think I can say much without spoiling the book. But the person who stole the show for me was no doubt Finnegan. I loved how clear his interest in Aurora was (although it was mainly political but THERE WAS CHEMISTRY)

Definitely a story for retelling lovers or anyone who wants to see a different take on the story for Sleeping Beauty. A Wicked Thing will captivate you with its world and how Aurora's life goes. I will for sure be on the lookout for other books by Rhiannon Thomas and will be awaiting the next book in this series.
